Jul 19, 2019

As you all know we are obsessed with Phebe Starr! We anxiously follow her waiting for her next song!  It is one of the best music video we’ve seen in a long time. Check out her new song and animated music video “Bad News” with Brisbane artist Helena Papageorgiou.

We got a chance to sit down and chat with Phebe and ask her some of our exclusive questions about her music and what inspires her!

What was your inspiration for your song/music video “Bad News”?

I tend to write music inspired by the visuals I see in my head. I always had an animation idea. The animator Helena helped me bring it life.

What inspires you to be an artist and write your own songs?

Honestly writing music inspires me to live. I need it to feel sane. I don’t really think about it much. I just do it and always have.

If you could work with any artist – who would it be?

I would love to work with Sufjan Stevens, Rosalia, Dolly Parton, Vampire Weekend, Clairo, Lana Del Rey, Blood Orange, Kanye, Carole King. Sorry I couldn’t answer just one.

What city was your favorite to perform in? Why?

I don’t have a favourite yet. I love going to new places. I loved playing in NY and Chicago but I’d love to go to South America. Playing at home in Australia is always amazing!

Currently Intergalactic – Beastie Boys

Favourite Song?

I have so many but Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood, The Cure – Close To Me,  Fleetwood Mac – Dreams, Mazzy Star – Fade Into You, Carole King – It’s Too Late, Cat Stevens – First Cut Is The Deepest, Kanye – Violent Crimes… I have too many songs that mean so much to me.

Favorite Movie?

Fantastic Mr Fox

Favorite snack?

TV addiction?

Rick and Morty

Dream concert ticket (any band, any decade)?

Prince, Dolly Parton, Kasey Musgraves. I went to Kanye’s last tour and that was pretty amazing.

Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner?

Johnny and June Carter Cash and my great great grandchild.

Do you have a party trick?

I learnt how to make 10 cents disappear when I was in year 3 and I still pull that trick out to blow people’s minds every now and them.

Tell us a secret?

All my secrets are other people’s so I can’t tell them, sorry!

What does popular mean to you?

It means being able to house 10 Dogs and still keeping your shit together.

Can you tell us about any shows or projects you have coming up?

No I can’t! Keep in touch so I can show you. x
