Boy Crush: Gianni Paolo

Aug 12, 2019

Meet our new crush Gianni Paolo! The hilarious, handsome, quick-witted and of course talented actor stars alongside Octavia Spencer in Universal’s highly-anticipated psychological thriller, “MA”! You will fall in love with him, go get some popcorn and check out his new movie! He is also on the hit Starz series “Power”, and he books and co-produces Theo Von’s podcast, “This Past Weekend”!

We were thrilled to catch up with our favorite heart throb, at our photo shoot in the Hollywood Hills, and asked him some of our exclusive questions!

Tell us about the psychological thriller, “MA” that you star in?

“Ma” is about a lonely older woman who befriends a group of teenagers and starts to basically join their friend group. When things get a little too creepy, the crew starts to step away and it sets “Ma” off.

How are you similar to your character? And how are you different from him?

I am pretty similar to Chaz. I love making people laugh, and I always say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Chaz loves to have fun and is down to do pretty much anything which was a lot like me in high school. I differ from Chaz in that I don’t drink or smoke, and let me tell you, Chaz hasn’t turned down a joint since 8th grade.

Any funny stories / moments on set / bloopers?

I love to bust balls on set, it helps keep me occupied. But one thing that sticks in my head that really made me laugh was when I lied to McKaley (who plays Haley) and told her that the house she was staying in was the crime scene of a family who got murdered decades ago. She immediately started crying. I felt really bad at first but to this day I still laugh about how fast she reacted. Don’t worry, I told her I was kidding after a couple seconds! Then a couple days later, we went to their house and opened up all of the cabinets when they were still on set taking off their makeup to make it seem like a ghost was there.

What would be your idea of a perfect day?

My perfect day would be waking up at 7:30am to go box. Get a nice hot shower in and then head to set and film for the day by about 9:30am. Throughout the day, while they’re changing set ups in my dressing room, I have an Xbox One with NHL19 and some new podcast episodes out that I can listen to while I play. At lunch, they are definitely serving fried chicken (if it’s a cheat day). Wrap on set at about 5pm and get another nice shower in when I get home. Change and get ready and head over to The Comedy Store to watch some stand up. There is also a parking spot RIGHT out front on Sunset (which will never happen ever again). Then I head over to Greenblatt’s with some friends to get a late-night snack.

Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner?

This is impossible. I love to laugh at dinner, but I want to ask questions!

Danny McBride

Donald Glover

Dave Chapelle

Dream concert ticket (any band, any decade)?

Machine Gun Kelly

Favorite movie?

The Town or The Spectacular Now

Karaoke anthem?

Anything Blink 182 or Eminem.

Favorite artist?

Machine Gun Kelly or Lil Peep

Last fashion item purchased?

Being in movies is dope sometimes, you get a lot of free clothes, so I can’t remember what the last thing I purchased was, but a pair of Versace Flip Flops are in my cart right now so the balls in your court, Versace!

If you could only eat one thing from now on, what would it be?

I’ll go with the healthy option and pick the Kale Caesar With Chicken from sweetgreen!

Tell us a secret/ fun fact about yourself?

I love the comedy podcast world! I co-produce a podcast called This Past Weekend with Theo Von!

What does Popular mean to you?

Popular to me, personally, is the person that everybody wants to be around. They’re fun, they’re cool and they’re genuine. Nowadays, I feel like it’s just what’s trending even though nobody likes that person and they have no real value to society.

Can you tell us about any other projects you have coming up?

Yes! “Power” Season 6 comes out August 25th on Starz!
