Boy Crush: Matt Rife!

Sep 19, 2019

Meet our new crush Matt Rife, the cute, talented and of course hilarious comedian/actor. He competed on the latest season of NBC’s “Bring The Funny’ and is in Lifetime’s movie “Stalked by My Doctor: A Sleepwalker’s Nightmare.” Although you probably know him from being a member of MTV’s “WILD N’ OUT”!
We were thrilled to catch up and have a few laughs with Matt, our favorite heart throb, at his photo shoot in the Hollywood Hills, and asked him some of our exclusive questions!

Tell us about NBC’s “Bring the Funny” and your character:

Being on Bring The Funny was such a fun experience. It was my first nationally televised standup exposure – so I was very grateful for the opportunity. It was a little nerve racking, but mostly exciting.

How is it being on “ Bring the Funny” vs. Lifetime’s thriller/ drama “ Stalked by my Doctor”:
Competition shows are always difficult because there are so many talented people and most of them are really good, so you don’t want them to go home empty handed either. But at the end of the day you have to want to win it all. While with scripted television, it’s a team effort, you’re working for and with a whole cast and crew, trying to give an amazing group performance. You can be selfish on competition shows. With scripted, it’s all for one and one for all.

What made you want to be a stand up comedian/ who is your favorite comedian:
I was always class clown and making my friends and family laugh, ever since I was a kid. As well as just a huge fan of comedic movies, watching them, quoting their lines, acting them out. And when I was a young teenage, I discovered what standup was and it just kind of fit my natural ability to make people laugh and I was drawn to it.

Favorite comedian: My favorite comedian, hands down, is Dave Chappelle.

Perfect Day: A perfect day for me would be to wake up, grab breakfast with some friends, go boxing, eat lunch, maybe shop a little (I have a problem), and then finally perform some standup at night.

Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner: John C. Really, Dave Chappelle, and George Washington.

Dream Concert ticket: Woodstock 1969

Favorite Movie: Grease

Karaoke Anthem: I hate karaoke so much

Favorite Artist: J. Cole

Last fashion item purchased: Jordan 4s “Retro Toro” sneakers

You can only eat one thing from now on: Crab Legs forever.

Fun fact about yourself: I know every word to Jagged Edge ft. Jermaine Dupri song “Lets Get Married”

What does Popular mean to you:

“Popular” to me means being in the public eye, hopefully for good reason. Unfortunately a lot of negative media makes the news and also becomes “popular”.

Can you tell us about any other projects you have coming up:

I’m currently touring all across the country doing standup and filming an Independent movie with Eric Roberts. As well as working on developing my own projects for television.
