Meet Brianne Tju!
Sep 27, 2019
Meet Brianne Tju! You probably know her for her role as Riley Marra in the MTV series “Scream”, and Alex Portnoy in the Hulu series “Light as a Feather” and Alexa in “47 Meters Down: Uncaged.”
We were thrilled to catch up with Briana Tju at our photo shoot in the Hollywood Hills, and ask her some of our exclusive questions!
Tell us about your show “Light as a Feather”, We are excited about season 2 (which just started in July) anything you can tell us about whats to come ?
I would describe it as a witchy, thriller, teen-drama. It’s about a group of girls who play a twisted version of Light as a Feather that puts their lives and relationships at risk. Season 2 has higher stakes, we flesh out relationships, and have new characters. I love the second season and I’m really excited for people to watch it.
What is it like being on a suspenseful/ drama?
It’s exhausting. To be in a constant state of distress is tough. Luckily we have an incredible cast and crew that loves to hang out and laugh a lot. It’s important to be able to step away and de-stress after work.
Tell us about your movie “47 Meters Down: Caged” (which just came out August 16th)?
It’s about 4 girls that decide to go for a fun cave-diving excursion in Mexico. It quickly turns into a fight for their lives from sharks and declining air tanks. It’s a twist on your typical shark movie because it’s aesthetically beautiful. It will definitely get your heart racing and is pretty brutal throughout the film.
How was is acting alongside John Corbett?
He’s great. So funny. We would call him our “fun uncle” on set. He was at times protective of us but at the same time we brought him out of his comfort zone and opened him up.
How was your character Alex, Light as a Feather, and Alexa (47 Meters Down: Caged) similar, how are they different from each other? And similar and different to your personality?
They’re similar because they both start out with facade of being the fun one and the leader. They both reveal that deep down they are much more vulnerable and fragile. Alex had a lot of secrets that plagued her first season and in the second season she deals with trying to do the right thing and protect her friends. I guess Alexa is similar in that she also feels guilty for putting her friends at risk and tries to redeem herself by getting them out of the situation. They’re similar to me in that I tend to come off as very confident but I too am delicate. I’m a Gemini (a double Gemini at that) and I struggle with identity and my own self-acceptance. I think we’re all fiercely-loyal friends but at times we can be a bit unpredictable because we love to chase excitement.
Roman Holiday and Leon the Professional.
Torn by Natalie Imbruglia and Ass by Big Sean/Nicki Minaj.
Lover You Should’ve Come Over and Moon River.
Favorite TV show?
Peaky Blinders but I really love Los Espookys at the moment.
If you could only eat one thing from now on, what would it be?
My grandma’s Indonesian cooking.
Tell us a secret/ Fun fact about yourself?
I like iced cappuccinos with almond milk and one stevia. If someone wants to bring me coffee right now that would be great.
What does Popular mean to you?
In high-school it would have meant having the most friends and being invited to all the parties. Today, for me, it means having really great friends, finding confidence in self-acceptance, and using your influence to do good and be a good person.
Can you tell us about any other projects you have coming up?
The second half of Light as a Feather season 2 will release in October on Hulu!
