Meet Marcus Scribner!
Jun 2, 2019
We absolutely love Marcus Scribner! We are sure you have seen him as “Andre Johnson Jr.” on the wildly popular comedy series series “Black-ish”! Marcus has been nominated for multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice, NAACP Image and SAG Awards! As you can imagine he is super busy and we love all of his work!
We got a chance to meet up with him at his photoshoot in the Hollywood Hills, he is just as funny, polite and handsome as we thought he would be! We learned about all his projects we got to know him and ask him some of our exclusive questions!
Tell us about your show Black-ish?
Blackish is a family comedy on ABC about an upper middle class African American family who is struggling to stay connected to their roots. We cover a variety of topics across the wide spectrum of race in America, politics, and the black experience.
How your character Andre Johnson JR and how are you similar? And how are you and your character different?
We have a few similarities in the fact that both of us are fashion orientated and have a love for all things video game and fantasy related, but that’s where the similarities end. I think Andre Junior is definitely a lot more clumsy, naive, and goofy than my real life self. I have more of a chill California vibe.
Can you tell us about a funny moment or two on set with the rest of the cast? (something funny that happened during a take/ or while rehearsing)
I think some of the funniest moments are definitely when my TV siblings and I work together to create improvised rap albums complete with stage names, complete songs, and tour dates.
Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner?
I’d definitely like to invite president Barack Obama, Drizzy Drake, and Kobe Bryant to dinner. I have no clue where the topics intersect and what we would discuss but I can tell you it would be one heck of a dinner
Dream concert ticket (any band, any decade)?
My dream concert is definitely just Rolling Loud. I like a ton of trap artists and rappers.
Favorite movie hmmm, I really enjoy Apocalypse Now. I think it is an excellent film and something that has stuck with me for a while. Also Zoolander. They’re on opposite ends of the spectrum but I can definitely appreciate both films in their mastery of their specific categories.
Favorite song to karaoke to is definitely How Far I’ll Go from Moana. I really get into it.
Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi, Nav Amine, 21 Savage, Juice Wrld, Comethazine, and the 6 god himself, drake
Last fashion item purchased?
Right now I’m really trying to secure the Cactus Plant Flea Market Vapormax that just came out but it’s hard to find because it’s a women’s shoe so I would wear a 14. The most recent purchase I made was a plain All Saints white shirt to tie together my fits. Simple is better sometimes.
Tell us a secret/ Fun fact about yourself?
I’m really passionate about In n’ Out. It’s probably my favorite thing on this planet and I could not live without it. I’m a burger connoisseur.
Do you have a party trick?
I can hit the woah really well. That usually gets the party going.
What does Popular mean to you?
Popular is definitely something that comes from within oneself. You can be popular and not have many friends as long as you exude a confidence from within yourself and know that you are the bomb dot com. Don’t ever forget that you are the best!!! That’s what it means to be popular to me. The rest will come to you if you’re confident in yourself.
Can you tell us about any other projects you have coming up?
Outside of Black-ish, I’m on an animated Dreamworks show called Shera and the Princesses of Power that just dropped season two on Netflix. I filmed a project with Awesomeness called The F*** It List. Can’t wait for everyone to see that one. I also filmed an indie project called Confessionals. I’m also working a bit behind the camera and I’m working with people to develop some pretty cool projects so stay tuned!
