Meet Popular Girl: Eline Powell

Etc.

May 15, 2018

We got a chance to sit down with the inspiring and talented Eline Powell at our photo shoot in Hollywood Hills! We are obsessed with her show, Siren! Siren is about a coastal town that has a mysterious new visitor named Ryn (Eline Powell), who may prove that all of the mysterious stories about this place are true. Must watch on freeform!

What gets you up in the morning?
My alarm. Or my dog licking my face. I prefer the latter, I’m not always a morning person!

In what ways are you and Ryn similar? In what ways are you different?
We are similar in our curiosity for new things and perhaps her lack of personal space awareness. I’m European so I greet people with kisses. Not everybody is comfortable with that I’ve learned.
We are very different in our expression of frustration or anger. She lets it all out, I sit on it for days and try to figure out how to diffuse it or rationalize the situation.

Can you tell us a bit more about training for the character? What was it like filming with the tail on? The training was so much fun. We were trained in breath holding and scuba diving. The free diving was an amazing experience as you have to become quite “zen” to be successful. I once got to 3 minutes 12 but that was static (not doing movement). In the pilot they actually made the tail, it was stunning and I could move so fast! But it was quite a taxing process so they simplified it for the rest of the season and we just swam with monofins. It is much more flexible to move in.
What was your favorite moment on the set of Siren?
Anytime under water and also a specific moment which I can’t mention yet but I will reveal when it’s aired!
Is there any fun fact about making the series that you can tell us?
We sang Rihanna’s Wild Thoughts for a whole night shoot once. It was awesome and then it was weird.
Your biggest virtue?
I am a good secret keeper.
Your biggest vice?
I laugh when people fall down. I know it’s terrible. Just can’t help it.
Do you have a party trick?
I can make a mosquito sound with my nose.
How would you describe your style?
Ace Ventura meets feminine chic.
What would constitute a perfect day for you?
A sunny day by the sea, having a picnic, reading an amazing book and dancing to salsa music at night with friends and family. Or being on the set of Siren of course.
Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner?
Frida Khalo
Audrey Hepburn
Iron Man

Your favorite quote?
