Popular Girl: Talia Jackson
May 6, 2020
Popular Girl Talia Jackson is strong, talented, and beautiful! Even though Talia plays Jade McKellan in Netflix’s Family Reunion and Zoe in ABC’s Station19, the actress had time to talk with us about her character, her career, and plans for the future.
She also just launched her new single “Complicated” – Yes, she sings as well & you can check it out below!!! – and has a lot of fun projects coming up next.
Take a look at her full interview below!
1. Tell us about Family Reunion and your character Jade! Are you and your character similar? Different?
Very similar we are both teenagers, and both have a rebellious side. A lot of the issues that Jade deals with I deal with my own life. I would like to think I’m more level headed than she is and more empathetic towards my sibling, Armani Jackson.
2. How has the show affected your life?
It has completely changed my life. I was looking at other things to do with my life right before I turned in this taped audition because I wanted to give up. I had been pinned for 3 major network show within a week and lost all of them 6 months before I auditioned for this role. I had been auditioning for 10 years and only booked a few minor projects that never made it to the screen. I went to Wisconsin to hang with my old friends and I didn’t want to come back and audition. My mom and I got in a big argument and she forced me to come back and told me I was not going to give up. I got on a plane upset with her and within 10 days of being back in LA, I booked this role and the same day a national commercial for Pantene. Then 2 weeks later I booked Station 19. I’m so thankful my mom stuck to her gut feeling and pushed me to come back.
3. You play alongside Tia Mowry-Hardrict! What is that like/were you a fan before you started shooting together?
What have you learned from her? I’ve always been a big fan of Tia’s and it’s been a dream to be able to work with her! Tia is not only inspiring as an actress, but she has been a great role model as a businesswoman for me to emulate.
4. What is an average day for you like? (Quarantined or otherwise)
An average day for me when not quarantined would be to wake up at about 6 am and go to work on the set of Family Reunion at the Paramount Studios. I try to get a workout in at Equinox on my way home if I’m not too tired. Then go to dinner with a few friends and off to sleep. During the quarantine days, I sleep late and then get up and do a workout routine at home that includes jumping rope, sprinting wall balls, and kettle balls. Then spend time going live and FaceTiming lots of my friends.
5. What is your dream role? (real or imagined)
My dream tv role would be a series regular role on Euphoria. My dream director to work with would be Ava Duvernay and I would love to work on a Ryan Murphy project like American Horror Story. My dream actors to work with would be Saoirse Ronan, Timothy Chalamet, Ansel Elgort, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
6. What is your “Hollywood Dream”? (i.e. winning an Oscar, billboard in Times Square, etc.)
Receiving an Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar or Grammy as an actress and singer/songwriter.
7. What was it like growing up in Wisconsin? Do you ever get that ‘70s show references?
It was a great upbringing. I spent a lot of time in the country and riding horses. It has a special place in my heart. I lived there until 6 years old and I still visit family and friends. I actually have never had any references from that 70’s show.
8. What Netflix shows are you watching right now?
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Society, BoJack Horseman & Big Mouth
9. What was the audition process like for Family Reunion? How did you find out you got the role?
I actually was very late in the process. They had already made an offer to someone else after 6 weeks of auditioning. I was in Wisconsin taking a break from auditions and was asked to do a tape when I got back to LA. The next day I went to producers, 3 days later I was testing for the role and found out 5 minutes after the test that I booked it. I was really lucky it went that fast.
10. What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment is being on an award-winning show and the recent release of my new music, which is allowing my fans to see another layer of me.
11. Can you tell us an embarrassing story?
That’s an easy one but it involves the whole family. A few Thanksgiving’s ago, we went to my uncle’s house, we thought at least and we walked in and it was a whole other family having Thanksgiving! I think we scared the hell out of them. But then they invited us to stay for drinks. We politely declined.
12. What does popular mean to you?
It means having an impact on a certain group of people, whether it is a friendly group, an activist, an artist, or an author.
13. Can you tell us about any other projects you have coming up?
I have a new single releasing in the next few weeks and working on some super cool music with a very notable producer. I can’t wait to share it with everyone
