Aly & AJ Announce A Virtual Concert

Aug 12, 2020

The iconic duo known as Aly & AJ have not slowed down at all during these times. In fact, I think they’ve began to kick things up. Here’s the rundown:

During Aly & AJ’s “Up All Night” livestream in late June, the duo along with their fans raised over $30,000 to be split evenly across 13 different charities: Glaad, Trevor Project, Nalleli Vs Cancer, Frontline Foods, Beauty Bus, Project Heal, Art of Elysium, Sierra Club, Women’s History Museum, Musicares, Color of Change, Save the Stages and The Red Cross.

Aly & AJ kicked off the night with their band for a full concert set followed by special quests who joined via Zoom over the course of 12 hour stream including Aly’s Phil of the Future cast, a She-Ra scene reading with AJ’s co-star Aimee Carrero from the hit Netflix show, a conversation with Joel Madden, karaoke with Hayley Orrantia from ABC’s The Goldbergs, and much more. The duo also reviewed their own music videos from over the years including their latest video for “Joan of Arc on the Dance Floor,” which is inspired by the 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc by Carl Dreyer.

The new video opens with an ominous frame reading ‘Knights in Armor Hide Under Eyeliner’. Cloaked behind the Danish subtitles and disco synths lies the summer dance track you’ve been waiting for! The sisters layer anthemic vocals over the chorus chanting, “We don’t stop // Until mascara’s on the dance floor // We say, “No” // Joan of Arc is on the dance floor.” “I thought it might be kind of cool to write an anthem about this figure in history, who has been so widely praised for standing up for something that she truly believed in,” said Aly Michalka. And while this track comes almost 13 years after hit “Potential Breakup Song”, it also comes with the announcement that they are working on their first full length studio album after 13 years!

Even after the release of a new music video, announcement of an album, and a 12-hour stream, Aly and AJ continue to do more for their fans. This upcoming Saturday, August 15th at 5:30 PST/8:30 EST, Aly & AJ are sharing their performance from the Bowery Ballroom (virtually of course) entitled ‘A Sanctuary Experience’. No RSVP necessary for this event and you can check it all out right hereTickets to the show are just under $10 (if you’re not already a Sanctuary Member) and AND the girls will be giving a special Q&A following the broadcast.

Show me  a more hardworking duo. I’ll wait.

Until then you can keep up with Aly & AJ at the social links below and stream their latest drops.
