Sure, summer doesn’t officially start for a few more weeks. But if there’s anyone with the power to speed along the seasons, it’s Best Coast. For years now the California duo has charmed surfer girls (and guys) and city kids alike with their sun-drenched brand of surf pop. It’s one that’s meant for driving down the PCH, windows down and volume way up. Three years after Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno released their last album The Only Place,  the pair is back with with their aptly titled new LP, California Nights — and it picks up exactly where the former left off.

But rather than mostly crooning about that sparkling West Coast sunshine, this time there’s a bit more substance (although the lyrics are no less addictive). Think about it this way: If The Only Place is your daytime jam, then consider the slightly deeper, slightly more grown-up California Nights to be your happy hour soundtrack.
