Jan 11, 2019

Its finally here! All week we have been anxiously waiting for it to be Friday, so we could here Ellise’s new single, “Keep It To Myself”! We are obsessed, we can’t stop dancing around the office to her music!
We got a chance to chat with Ellise about her new single and ask her some of our exclusive questions!

What was your inspiration for your new single “Keep It To Yourself”?

I love to write fictional songs- fun fact- almost all of my songs are from situations I make up in my head, rather than things I experienced in my own life. Keep it to Myself is about a girl who has feelings for a boy in a relationship. The boy has feelings for her too, and they are caught in between wanting each other, and knowing it’s the wrong thing to do.

What inspires you to be an artist and write your own songs?

I have always loved to sing. I could hum little melodies before I could talk. My entire childhood, I never stopped singing. I won all kinds of local talent shows, posted little covers on youtube, and so on. Song writing came a little later, though. I was always into writing short stories and poems from a young age, but didn’t realize I was actually a really good song writer until early 2018. I had always been told by people who were trying to bring me down: “You’re a powerhouse vocalist! You don’t need to write your own songs! Lyrics don’t even matter!” I let myself believe this for a while, but every pre written song I would cut vocals on just didn’t feel like…me. Because of that, I waited until I started writing my own songs to start releasing original music. I always want to be my most authentic self, and pour my heart into any song I create.

If you could work with any artist – who would it be?

This is a hard one! There are so many artists I look up to. But, I have always dreamt of making a song with Cashmere Cat. I love his production style so much and relate to his creative process a lot.

What city was your favorite to perform in? Why?

I haven’t performed here yet, but, I would love to perform in my hometown, San Francisco. SF has always been my favorite city and I am my happiest when I’m there. That’s definitely on my 2019 bucket list!

Karaoke Anthem?

Fallin by Alicia Keys. Every time. No questions asked.

Favorite Song?

I don’t really have a favorite song actually! I am constantly listening to new music, of all different genres, but I’d say my all time favorite genre is rap.

Favorite Movie?

I know it’s basic but, Kill Bill. Always.

Favorite snack?

Any type of cereal.

TV addiction?

Black mirror!

Dream concert ticket (any band, any decade)?

I would die to see Sublime in concert in their prime- that would be insane.

Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner?

Alice in Wonderland, Hermione Granger and Princess Bubblegum. Easy.

Do you have a party trick?

Actually no, I can’t think of any!

Tell us a secret?

There might be a Keep It To Myself music video coming sooner than anyone thinks.

What does popular mean to you?

To me, popular can mean a lot of things. I think “popular” people are people that other people can look up to, come to for advice, and see in a position of leadership. Sadly, there are obviously some “popular” people who don’t always use their popularity for good. However, especially this past year, I believe a lot of people with audiences watching them have decided to use their popularity to make a difference, or raise awareness, and it’s awesome.

Can you tell us about any shows or projects you have coming up?

I have a music video for Keep it to Myself coming soon, more singles, a couple collaborations, visuals, and maybe (wink wink) an album!
