Grimes and Lorde Are Obsessed With Hana
May 16, 2015
Last year right around this time, a girl named Ryn Weaver started popping up on Twitter with her addictive debut single, “Octahate.” Snagging endorsements from stars like Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX (who co-wrote the track), and Jessie Ware, a couple of tweets were all the LA singer needed to officially go viral. Fast-forward a year later, and Weaver is well on her way to burgeoning pop stardom (her debut album is out this fall). But luckily for everyone who’s on the hunt for the next big thing, there’s another internet unknown about to blow things up.
Enter Hana, the mysterious singer who, until just this week, nobody had even heard about. But thanks to shoutouts from Grimes and Lorde, she’s quickly making the rounds online – and her gorgeous debut single “Clay” proves there’s major talent behind the buzz. Co-produced by Blood Diamonds (the guy behind Grimes’ tracks like “Go” and “Phone Sex”), the crystalline pop gem has hints of Grimes’ electronic quirk, but with an added polish. Lorde put it best on Twitter, calling the song “too shimmering and beautiful for words.” Coincidentally enough – or not – Hana’s heading out on tour with Grimes and Lana Del Rey this summer, so this is only the beginning of big things to come. Hear “Clay” above, and find out more about your new favorite pop star here.
