KENDRA MORRIS’ SOULFUL ‘WOMAN’ IS INSPIRED BY SMOKIN’ HOT SELFIES
Apr 25, 2016
After falling down an Instagram wormhole of a hot girl’s selfies, Brooklyn soul singer Kendra Morris started feeling more and more insecure about herself. She even started imaging what would happen if her then boyfriend (now husband) met that girl on Instsagram and fell for her. It led her to thinking about her past relationships and how in each one she fixates on a “cooler” or “hotter” woman she’d see and think how her boyfriends would leave her for them. Falling somewhere on the spectrum between Amy Winehouse and Adele, Kendra Morris pours her heart in to “Woman.” You can see it shining through on the main line of the song: “Always gotta be a woman making me feel like shit.”
“I wrote the song thinking a lot about our cultures extreme over saturation and obsession of vanity,” says Kendra of her latest single. “So many women, men, people have been using vanity as their way of finding a sort of worth or instant gratification in today’s society. It’s like the story of Narcissus and how he couldn’t stop staring at himself has come to life.”
