Meet Alison Wonderland

Apr 30, 2015

Coachella is upon us, which means you’re either A.) Currently trekking to the California desert and plotting which artists you’re going to see this weekend, or B.) Wishing you were in Indio, and instead listening to your FOMO Coachella playlist on loop. Either way, there’s really no better time to meet Alison Wonderland, the Australian DJ and producer who just dropped her debut album Run earlier this month. She’s making her U.S. debut this weekend at the festival — simultaneously kicking off her “Wonderland Warehouse” American tour and cementing her stateside invasion. POPULAR’s Ilana Kaplan took the Sydney resident on a whirlwind night out in New York City for our inaugural issue. And a few drinks later, she found out everything you need to know about the next EDM queen. Get to know Alison Wonderland below, then see where you can catch her live here!

Her thoughts on rock stars:
“Fuck the people who act like rock stars when they’re not. The artists I’ve met who are doing well are really humble, and I really respect that. Let your art speak for you.”

On her tattoos:
“The first one I got was when I was 16. Actually I’m not going to say what it is—the only people who know are people who see me without clothes on.”

On her new single “U Don’t Know” featuring Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips:
“It’s about people treating you like you’re this naïve girl. In fact, I’m quite clued in and I know exactly what’s going on. It’s about learning who’s really there for you and who’s not.”
