Mixtape: Ilirjana Alushaj

Jun 23, 2015

Everybody has that friend with the amazing music taste. You know, the one who’s first to see the band before they were big; the one who’ll tip you off to the best under-the-radar songs; and the one who can totally say “I told you so” a year later, then the rest of the world finally catches on to her long-held obsession. (But usually she won’t, because she’s a nice person.)

For many people, that friend is Ilirjana Alushaj. You might remember the Australia-born, LA-based musician from her band Apache Beat. But these days, you’re likely to find the multi-hyphenate writing, DJing, collaborating with brands, and running her zine, The Pop Manifesto.  Needless to say, Ille knows what’s up — and she’s compiled a mixtape of her coolest (mostly) female artists just for us. From Swedish dream pop duo JJ to California chanteuse Kacy Hill to Rihanna, it’s packed with equal parts girl power and badass attitude. Listen here.
