nimino Unveils Forward-Thinking Debut Album Rooms On The Ark
Jul 6, 2021
After an impressive string of four singles that were released throughout the first half of the year, forward-thinking producer nimino has finally unveiled his full debut album, Rooms On The Ark, via TH3RD BRAIN. The producer’s lively and vibrant brand of electronic music has received massive acclaim from the likes of EARMILK, Huffington Post and Spotify over the past years, while Rooms On The Ark signifies a brand new chapter for his career.
Undoubtedly nimino’s most ambitious and complete work of art to date, Rooms On The Ark is a smooth journey through pop-influenced electronic music, mostly residing within the worlds of house and garage. Featuring an array of talented vocalists, among them Tori Romo, Harrison Mayo, Ro Nova and more, the project truly makes up for a cohesive listen throughout. Songs like “What I Want” and “Where I’m At” see nimino put on his dancing shoes and dive into the realms of house and R&B, while others like “Light Up “ and “Satin” with Nikita Bassi perfectly showcase nimino’s knack for making low key and minimal gems.
It’s apparent that nimino has spent a long time perfecting each and every song on Rooms On The Ark, the project, however, would’t be complete without a strong visual identity to accompany it. The album uses animated visuals and seamlessly transitioned music to transport the listener through a conceptual “ark,” with each different room representing a song, varying in style, purpose and colour. As nimino explains:
“I knew if I was ever to make an album it had to have more to it than just music, but at first I was unsure what story I wanted to tell, or what world it should inhabit. My style has never belonged to a specific category. I see it as being on the same planet as many of the artists I listen to, but in its own territory. This image felt like a fitting base for an album: a slightly desolate, independent landscape. I considered islands, deserts, a house on top of a hill… But once I began visualising the album on a boat, the thoughts started to flow naturally. I worked closely with artists and animators to create the imagery, before stitching the music together and then imagining the whole thing as a cohesive, first-person experience.”
nimino spent years crafting his sound before truly coming into his own as an artist. Back in 2019 nimino was taken under the wing of chill-out music tastemaker TheSoundYouNeed, and released his last two EPs through them, something that catapulted his career into new heights. So far, nimino has reached over 250,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, amassed over 20 million streams across all platforms, and received plays on Radio 1, 6, 1xtra, Beats 1, and many more. Rooms On The Ark will undoubtedly help him break into the spotlight even more, and we are very excited to keep following him on his journey.
