Hailing from Barranquilla, Columbia is 17-year-old singer-songwriter, VALE. A fiercely talented vocalist, the artist began performing at only six years old at the hands of a school choir. Fast forward eleven years and you’ll find the young artist releasing her third single “One Day”. ‘One Day’ shares the story of a relationship gone cold and figuring out if it’s even worth staying in. A showcase of her pop and R&B influences, ‘One Day’ shows off VALE’s range from her mature retelling of the story mixed with the layering of some moving R&B melodies .

With over 100k streams since her career inception in late march, VALE has become an underground phenomenon helping her fans by retelling stories of her pass that have shaped her. Ranging from funny to sweet, the artist stated “I thought that creating the series would be a cool way to let people get to know a little about me, and what makes me who I am!”.

The artist’s other two singles are a reflection of her inspirations with sentiments of Harry Styles and the same beautiful distorted instrumentals showcased by SZA in the single ‘heart’. Popular TV spoke with the artist about her new single and confirmed that no, she does not have a piano in her bathroom.

1. Tell us about your new single “One Day” and how it came to be.
One Day came to be quite naturally, we wanted to make something that felt good, and that made whoever listened to it happy. The message behind the song came from something I was going through at the moment where I was having an inner battle with myself regarding my feelings towards a certain situation. I came to realize though that even if at the time everything seemed to be extremely complicated, and as if the odds were all against me, eventually it would get better.

2. Your IGTV ‘be somebody’ series is titled from your single under the same name. What made you start the series?
I thought that creating the series would be a cool way to let people get to know a little about me, and what makes me who I am! I had a lot of fun shooting the videos for it so I hope I get to do some more in the future.

3. Why is your piano in the bathroom? For the acoustics?
My piano is definitely not in the bathroom, its the karaoke playing, but I guess I tricked everyone into thinking I was playing it all this time? I wish I had a bathroom piano so I could be cool and play the one song I do know how to play though.

4. Following up, we absolutely loved the ‘Falling in Love’ cover from Elvis. What is your favorite song to cover?
My favorite song to cover currently, would probably be ‘Sign of the Times’ by Harry Styles simply because I actually know how to play it on the piano, and because it’s a truly beautiful song. It’s one of those gut wrenching masterpieces I wish I would’ve written myself.

5. Describe your sound in 3 words?
Evolving, Fresh, Nostalgic.

6. What is the dream as far as your music?
My dream would probably be to become a huge voice for anyone who needs it. I want to always spread love, and as I said, be one big voice for my audience, where I would let the world know what they want and what is important to them. Ultimately, I completely understand and love the fact that I would not be able to do what I do without the support my audience shows me, so I want to give back to them.

7. Who are the biggest inspirations for the music you currently create? Has that changed overtime?
My biggest inspirations for the music I want to make in the near future would definitely be Fleetwood Mac, SZA, Harry Styles and David Bowie. My inspirations have drastically changed throughout the last two years, I guess they change as I grow up, which is why I don’t think I’ll ever have an 100% established sound. My songs will just be my songs.

8. Do you recall a specific pivotal moment in your life that made you realize music was your true calling?

Definitely when I travelled to LA in 2018. I was presented with the opportunity to start this amazing career and journey, which made me realize how lucky I was to have everything laid out perfectly like that in front of me. It made me wake up and realize my life-long dreams were about to come true.
