Sound Off: Anthony De La Torre

Music

Apr 13, 2020

Anthony De La Torre is the actor, singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is making us fall in love with his single “Raining in London” featuring “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” star, Lana Condor!

His new EP, featuring six originals all written or co-written by Anthony, ranges from the high-sprit pop of ‘Halloween’ to the newly released “Do You Mean It” which describes the complexities of being in your own mind during a relationship (which is linked below). “I’ve dabbled in a variety of different styles because I was being pulled in a million different directions. I never totally had a clear sense of who I wanted to be musically. This EP was the start to finding myself musically. Making ‘Find Me’ helped me realize that it’s enough to just be myself. I’m figuring out what my sound is, this is just the beginning,” he added.

Luckily, we got to (virtually) chat with Anthony about the inspiration in his new EP ‘Find Me’, ‘Raining in London’ and his experience on set with Johnny Depp! Keep reading to know more about the guy you’ll be blasting all summer from your couch!

1. What is the inspiration for your music?

I have found inspiration from so many things for this EP. Some were real-life situations that I wanted to express or share. Others were beautiful stories that we imagined. It was cathartic and fulfilling.

2. If you could work with any artist, who would it be?

I’d say Halsey. She is such a powerful force but so vulnerable at the same time. Lana and I listen to her music frequently.

3. “Raining in London” is just compelling and lovely. How was shooting the music video with Lana?

It was so much fun. To get to act together for the first time felt like getting to do your school project with your best friend. Lana is so incredibly talented, and getting to share the screen with her was an honor.

4. Tell us about your experience on the set of “Pirates of Caribbean”?

From the moment I walked onto that set, I felt like a little kid. I’m not over exaggerating when I say it was the coolest experience of my entire life. Johnny Depp was so sweet and encouraged me constantly between takes. I am forever grateful to Disney and Johnny for making my dreams come true.

5. Best part of being an actor? Singer? Which do you prefer?

What I enjoy from being an actor is getting to have a different name and imagining living a different life. I love the challenge of making someone else believe this person I’m playing is real. I love singing/producing because it’s such a phenomenally fast way to cause the listener to feel whatever it is your sharing with them. Both are incredibly fulfilling.

6. If you had to choose one person to spend an entire day with, who would it be & what would you do?

I would bring my girlfriend Lana. We would go sailing (with wine and snacks on-board).

7. East Coast or West? Why?

West Coast because that’s where I live now, but I think it’s good to always remember the grass is really green on both sides!

8. Favorite NYC restaurant?

Sushi Yasaka

9. What are you currently watching?

I’m watching “Parks and Rec” again for the 4th time right now.

10. What’s currently on your playlist?

Harry Styles – “Falling”

Drake – “Life is Good”

Halsey – “Ashley”

Lauv – “Superhero”

11. What do you wish people would ask you more?

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

12. A perfect weekend?

A perfect weekend is all the people I love spending some carefree time together watching movies, going out to eat, and playing VR.

13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Everything I’m doing now, but on a bigger scale. Additionally, Lana and I want to start spending more time working in Vietnam with the Asia Foundation.

14. Do you have any upcoming projects?

My music video for “Do You Mean It” just came out on April 10th. Beyond that, I will be releasing more music throughout the year!
