Sound Off: Casey Baer
Apr 28, 2020
From her Hilary Duff concert at the age of three to playing Mini Sharpay at the age of six, it was in the cards for pop artist Casey Baer to end up on Radio Disney! With the release of her new single Make Me Hate U, Casey has amassed over half a million streams on Spotify and we’re willing to bet she’s about to get half a million more (at least)! We got to chat with the Los Angeles native about her new song and a few other things that will Make U Love Her (see what we did there).
1. Tell us about “Make Me Hate U” and the inspiration behind it.
“Make Me Hate U” was inspired by a guy I was hanging out with… things were great when we were together but when we were apart he was being “that guy” playing with my feelings, and I kept saying why is he making me hate him!? After I put it on my phone with all my other song ideas I realized this is so relatable. I knew right then it was going to be my next song!
2. How long have you been writing and singing?
I’ve been singing my whole life. My parents say I was humming before I was even talking. I have always been writing my thoughts and ideas in notebooks, that I still have, and on my phone for years, but I started turning my ideas into songs when I was 16. I went to a writing retreat with the incredible James Fauntleroy, and that’s where it all started coming together.
3. Can you tell us a littlest of your creating process? Do you have any specific trick when you are creating?
I have literally hundreds of ideas in my notes about my feelings, experiences and things that are going on in my life. That’s my trick, write down everything even if it’s just one word. It honestly depends on the day and who I’m writing with. I love to co-write and am fortunate to have been working with writers who are also my close friends. I usually have an idea based on something I’m feeling at the time. Since I play the piano, I often write sitting at the piano, but recently I’ve been learning Logic and now I’m building my own tracks which I’m super excited about.
4. What is the inspiration for your music?
My inspiration comes from my honest feelings and real-life experiences. People I meet, friendships, anxiety, love and sometimes just my thoughts from overthinking life in general.
5. A song that you love doing cover?
I always love to cover Diamonds by Rihanna, but lately my favorite is Changes by Justin Bieber.
6. Who is your fashion icon?
My fashion icon is Hailey Baldwin- Bieber.
7. Define your style in one word!
8. Who is your music idol?
9. If you could work with any artist, who would it be?
10. Favorite thing about LA?
LA is such a melting pot, I love being able to meet people from all over the world in one place!
11. If you had to choose one person to spent an entire day with, dead or alive, who would it be?
My grandfather on my father’s side. I never had the chance to meet him and he was such an amazing person who never gave up on anything, even with the obstacles he faced.
12. What is your favorite food?
13. Karaoke anthem?
Diamonds by Rihanna
14. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Touring the world and meeting and connecting with as many fans as possible.
15. What does popular mean to you?
Popular is a hard word to define. I don’t like to label things as popular because everyone has different opinions and they should not feel something isn’t good if it’s not “popular.”
16. Do you have any upcoming projects?
Yes! I will be releasing my first EP this year, I already have so many great songs just waiting to be released!!
