Sound Off: Meet CAPPA!
Sep 27, 2018
Meet CAPPA, indie-pop starlet who has made quite a splash with her unique pop sound! She has had numerous viral singles, including her rendition of TLC’s “No Scrubs” that landed on the top of the Spotify Viral Charts and has over 8 million streams to date.
We couldn’t stop listening to her single “Tension” all summer! We’re so excited to finally get a chance to sit down and get to know her better!
Tell us about your new single Tension?
“Tension” was one of the easiest songs I’ve written. It came really naturally and I walked away from the studio that day knowing that I wanted to release it. It’s about having built up frustration with someone and you want to yell MAKE A MOVE ALREADY. I also worked with a female production/writing duo on it and it was really nice to work with an all female team because that rarely ever happens in the music industry! I’m mostly always working with guys.
Tell us about the music video for Tension?
The music video was SO FUN to make. I worked on it with my friend Joe Desantis; he’s amazing and filmed the whole thing by himself. He also came up with the whole concept of having it feel like it was one shot. We did it all in 4 hours just us two, which is like insane when I think about it. We finished it like 1 or 3 A.M. and I was out of breath and half asleep by the time we were done.
Dream concert ticket (any band, any decade)?
THIS QUESTION IS SO HARD. I mean, I would have LOVED to see Micheal Jackson in concert so that would definitely be my first pick. He’s going to be remembered in history forever and I would have just loved to see the magic in person.
Probably Paramore. I can’t help it. Its been 10 years and I can’t stop listening to them and I just like their vibe as a band. They are also incredible live.
The Darkness- I believe in a thing called love
Cashew Butter. I’m just finishing up doing Whole 30 and cashew butter saved me. I can’t wait to eat cake in 3 days.
THE BACHELOR IN PARADISE. It is the most addictive show I’ve ever watched and I don’t know why.
Last fashion item purchased?
I’m obsessed with Target’s new line “Wild Fable” so I just got a few things from there. It’s very clueless-esque meets 90’s punk and very affordable. I also just moved to LA so I’ve been shopping a lot of thrift and second-hand stores. I just got the dream pair of mom jeans for $10 and am very stoked.
Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner?
Harry Potter, Gandhi, and Max Martin. Most interesting dinner dynamic ever.
Do you have a party trick?
Tell us a secret?
When time when I was 12 years old I ran into a wall in Disney land so I had this massive scab on my face, and I was chubby, and my grandpa cut my hair like a boy. I was literally one of the ugliest children I have ever seen and every time I get full of myself for something I think about that picture and it brings my right on back down to earth :)
What does popular mean to you?
To me, popular is about going after your dreams and standing for what you want no matter what any one else tells you and regardless if it’s cool or not. In high school, I spent most of my time writing songs in the piano room during lunch or parties. I knew I had a dream and wanted to go after it regardless of who thought I could do it or who thought it was cool. Doing you and going after what you want is the best and most popular thing you could ever do, in my opinion :)
Can you tell us about any new music or projects you have coming up?
It’s not a CAPPA song but I have a song I wrote coming out August 31st by Nevada & Loote and I’m really excited cause I’m obsessed with it. I’m also planning on dropping 2 or 3 new singles before the new year so keep an ear out :)
