Sound Off! Popular Girl: Cappa
Apr 14, 2019
We are obsessed with Popular Girl: CAPPA! And we were so excited about her new song, “I DO”, that we had to ask her to come chat with us about it. She is taking the music industry by storm with her catchy pop sound!
We had a blast chatting with this Hollywood “It Girl” at our photo shoot in LA. We had a chance to find out more about her music, personal style, and what inspires her to make music! She is creative, inspiring and overall fun to shoot with!
Tell us about your new single “I Do”? (what is it about, what was your
“’I Do’ is definitely, lyrically, a more raw song than a lot of my past music. It was about a serious relationship that I was in, and even though it was over, reminiscing on all the doubts that I had and the moving on process. It was sort of me admitting that even though I shouldn’t, I still wanted that person back. My previous single “Sux” was sort of the other end of that. It had an “I hate you” attitude, whereas “I Do” is much softer and about me wondering ‘what if?’
What inspires you to write, sing and perform your own songs?
I just knew since I was little that I had to do it. Since I was 7, I just thought it was the coolest “job” in the world and that has never changed for me. I feel like I HAVE to write my own feelings and just hope that on some level people relate to them and it helps them like it helps me.
If you could work with any artist – who would it be? (past or present,
dead or alive)
Omg this question is always so tough because no matter what I say it never sounds cool. I’d love to work with Pharrell on my project, and I’d love to have been in the studio while Hall & Oats was writing/recording…they’re iconic to me. I also think it’s every pop singer/songwriter’s dream to work with Max Martin at least once, and watch how his mind works.
Any silly rituals before you go on stage and/or any good luck charm
you keep while on stage?
I used to have to take a shot or two before I played a show because I got so nervous, but I’ve stopped doing that as much. I care a lot less lately…I’m just trying to have a good time doing what I love.
We love your style, how would you describe your look / Is there
anything or anyone that inspires your style?
Thank you! I love Gwen Stefani’s style, and Hayley Williams’ too. I sort of grew up on them so there’s definitely some influence there. I really like platform boots and little hats lately. But I go through phases – when I first moved to LA I just wore overalls and Adidas everyday. Lately I’ve been wearing funkier stuff and dressing up. I think you should always be able to wear whatever suits your mood! That’s the point of fashion.
Last clothing item purchased?
I got a floral dress from a second hand store in the OC! I wore it in one of the photos we took for this POPULAR shoot. I literally don’t own an expensive piece of clothing. My dog owns more expensive things than I do.
Hearing my song come on the radio has always been a surreal experience. And one time I was with a bunch of friends and my song was playing in a commercial on the TV channel we were watching. I was like…THIS IS MY DREAM!
I literally just had a full out conversation with someone in a Nashville coffee shop (I’m back home visiting) that I hadn’t seen in a while, and once I started talking I realized there was food in my teeth. But I didn’t wanna bring it up so I just powered through but it was NOT FUN.
What would constitute a perfect day for you?
Waking up happy, getting cold brew and going on a hike with my friends and dog, writing a cool song and then going to a dive bar at night :)
What would your last meal entail?
A Diet Coke, bacon cheeseburger and double Oreo milkshake.
What is your favorite quote?
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams; live the life you’ve always imagined”
Fun fact about yourself?
I am the worst speller anyone has ever met.
Are there any upcoming projects you can share with us?
I have a music video coming out for “I Do!” Then a few more singles leading into an EP. I also started a side project with my friend Jordan, it’s kind of in the vein of Oh Wonder and I’m REALLY excited about it.
