Ry is a talented singer, song-writer, and artist who is taking the music world by storm since he released his debut single “Back Then” in 2019, garnering thousands of streams on Spotify. Ry is juggling following his dreams by making music as well as being a college student, finding ways to unleash his creativity through song-writing and performing.
With that being said, the rising star just released his latest single “Someone” on all streaming platforms, so check out his new single as well as our exclusive interview where he dives deep into his influences, aspirations, and more!
1. Tell us about your new song “Someone” and the inspiration behind it.
I wrote this song kind of out of the blue somewhat, coming up for the course through writing another song actually. The inspiration was just realizing that in any type of relationship there needs to be 100% effort on both sides, not 50/50, but 100%.
2. The EP photo is very chill & fresh. Can you explain the meaning?
The idea behind the photo is just to keep it as vague as possible so everyone can relate to it in some way. Also, connecting the social media aspect of getting to know someone and being with someone in person because honestly I’m a terrible texter and I feel like I can’t hide behind a phone and express myself a lot of the time.
3. How long have you been singing and writing music?
I’ve been singing since I was just a kid with my grandmother, but I’ve been really writing for about 2 years now.
4. How do you manage your time between university, songwriting and singing?
I truly think balance in life is a huge thing. For me, university is an experience that I wanted to have and getting a degree can’t hurt either, but music is such a stress reliever and something I love doing. If I can make a career out of it I’m most definitely going to try but I have no expectations, just here to share my music.
5. Can you tell us a little bit about from where do you get inspiration when you are writing?
A lot of my inspiration comes from my uncle who passed a few years back. He was my dad’s best friend, my mom’s brother, my brother I never had in a sense, and I wouldn’t be here without him. We used to always play the piano, drums guitar and sing and he always made sure I knew that I could do whatever I wanted as long as I was happy, and music makes me happy.
6. If you could work with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be?
Mac Miller was one of the reasons I started writing. Listening to his music you can feel his words on another level that I feel few artists have the capability to do. I would just love to watch his process as he was so talented instrumentally as well.
7. Do you have any music idols?
Too many but to name a few.
Post malone = he is undeniably himself
Mac Miller = capture an audience in a way few can
Riley Green = I feel his storytelling skills are incredible
Harry Hudson = the way he creates a mood
Benny Blanco = originality
8. Perfect weekend?
Beach or lake house with friends, fishing, boating, surfing and everything in between. Just good times and creating memories.
9. Favorite thing about LA?
Diversity.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Not sure but being happy and enjoying whatever I’m doing. Whether that’s a world tour or being a real estate agent we’ll just see.
11. What does popular mean to you?
Popular is a vague term because I feel like a lot of people are popular but ultimately it means having a lot of friends in this generation. I think the more important thing is being authentic and that’s what truly makes someone popular.
12. Do you have any upcoming projects?
I definitely have few more coming up and can’t wait to release them.
