SXSW Outfit Diary: Tove Styrke
Mar 24, 2015

I find two things to be key when it comes to dressing your sassy self at a place like SXSW.
One: Comfort. You’re gonna be walking a lot, carry your gear between venues and the weather could be anything from dusty desert to pouring down. Be wise, be comfortable.
Two: Unless you’re headlining the biggest venues (and sometimes not even when you are) you’re not going to get too much fancy lights, lasers and smoke machines. If you want to put on a visual funfest your clothes kinda have to do the trick. This sweater is great for instance, just look at it, there are PVC shoes and stars on it!

And my dog necklace. Because, look at him! It’s a great necklace.

There are plenty of things to consider when you’re about to embark on a trip to Austin for SXSW: Which shows to see, where to go for the best tacos, and how many miles you’re willing to walk in the heat for great music. Or, in the case of Tove Styrke, what to wear when you’re making your SXSW debut. After months of blog hype for her bubbly pop hits like “Ego,” the 22-year-old singer finally showcased her tracks live — and not only did she nail her performances, she ruled the fashion game as well.
From her crazy patterned grandma sweaters to Sailor Moon-inspired legwear to dungarees, click through to see Tove’s daily style dispatch from Austin (complete with other nuggets of fashion wisdom from the budding star). And always remember: the sparklier the outfit, the better.
Dress for comfort.
“You’re going be walking a lot, carry your gear between venues and the weather could be anything from dusty desert to pouring down. Be wise, be comfortable.”
Get shiny.
“Unless you’re headlining the biggest venues (and sometimes not even when you are) you’re not going to get too many fancy lights, lasers and smoke machines. If you want to put on a visual fun fest, your clothes have to do the trick.”
Cowboy boots are always a good idea.
“Because when in Texas. Yes, cowboy, yes.”
Jeans can totally be stage attire.
“A pair of go to jeans are great to have. You can just wear them throughout the day and change shirt if you start to get bored with yourself or smell funky after a while.”
High-maintenance hair is overrated.
“I wore braids throughout the whole thing. Because I rather spend time on finding the most delicious tacos in town than keeping a high maintenance hairdo on point.”
Tove Styrke’s debut album Kiddo will be released on RCA Records June 2015.
