TRACK PREMIERE: MOONRISE NATION ‘COMMON FEAR’
Jul 26, 2017
Meet our new favorite chick-trio “Moonrise Nation” and get lost in their irresistible indie-pop hooks and catchy vocals on their new track “Common Fear” on Zinc Records, a label formed by Bobby Z of Prince’s band, The Revolution.
We caught up with the Chicago-based girl group, made up of sisters Arden (keyboard/vocals) and Eva Baldinger (bass/cello/vocals) and their BFF Emma McCall (vocals/guitar) to chat projects and process that make the Moonrise Nation so rad.
Check out the chat and their new vid below.
1. What inspired you to want to write music and sing? We grew up in homes where performance and songwriting were encouraged as valid and healthy forms of expression. Mine (Eva) & Arden’s mother was a jazz vocalist while our dad played drums in her band. They always had the coolest records playing in the house & were adamant that we be brought up learning classical skills (we hated them for it at the time, but we’re so grateful now). Emma fell in love with music after her dad took her to a Fleetwood Mac concert and she completely lost her 8-year-old mind when she saw Mick Fleetwood on drums! As we all got older, topics became more challenging and complicated and music became the most comfortable way to flesh out the experiences we were having.
2. If you could work with any artist – who would it be? Justin Vernon from Bon Iver and/or Leslie Feist. Ideally together in a studio in the woods drinking, crying, and getting weird.
3. What helps you with your writing process? Collaborating with each other and sharing songs with one another. We will send soundbites and snip-its of songs to try and piece together ideas for music. While typically one of us takes the lead on any particular song, our biggest asset is our team mentality. We craft and learn together and all of our music is a product of wanting to lift each other up.
4. Are there any upcoming projects you can share with us? We are currently on tour promoting our new album. It has been a whirlwind of a summer but we are so excited to be given the opportunity to play our music to different audiences. Beyond that, we are constantly writing and were actually just listening to some demos while on the road. All we can say is that we are always coming up with fresh concepts and love being in the studio…
