Video Premiere: Ruby the Rabbitfoot
Jun 22, 2015
Straight out of Athens, Georgia, we’ve just discovered the sparkliest way to cap off your day. Say hello to Ruby the RabbitFoot (aka Ruby Kendrick), who’s glamming it up big-time with lots of sparkles, sequins and fur in her video for “As Bad As I Am.” The song comes from Ruby’s 2014 sophomore album New As Dew, which fuses Ruby’s knack for southern folk-pop jams.
Filmed at the Madonna Inn in St. Louis Obispo, California, Ruby plays a starlet who pits three male suitors against each other as they vie for her affection in this very Wes Anderson-esque setting. The video is directed by Los Angeles artist Natalie Neal, who’s already worked with plenty of our other favorites, like Kate Nash and Petite Meller. (Maybe that’s one of the reasons we like it so much…)
Ruby’s killer voice gives us a nostalgic glance back at the first time we heard Jessica Lea Mayfield’s White Lies EP and Jenny Lewis’ Rabbit Fur Coat — and the video is the perfect visual accompaniment to her stunning sound. While watching, it’s hard not to have flashbacks to The Darjeeling Limited or The Grand Budapest Hotel. There’s something that makes you just want to jump in and dance with Ruby and her two girlfriends onstage as they have a quasi-Supremes moment…but what’s the point in fighting it?
