Dancing With The Stars
Aug 1, 2016
The Puerto Rican born and New York based shoe designer, Isa Tapia, is among the hottest younger names in the fashion industry. A semi-finalist for the prestigious CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, she launched her line in 2012 following years of working with some of the best labels in the industry including: Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs and Juicy Couture.
Her Fall 2016 collection is inspired by a two week trip traveling from Madrid to Ibiza. Flamenco dresses, antique hand painted fans, postcards, torero attire, castañuelas and other cultural artifacts served as visual reference for many of her sketches. After dancing nights away in Ibiza, the idea of incorporating large platform dancing shoes into her collection became a no-brainer. David Bowie also served as Tapia’s muse, having thus incorporated zig zags, thunderbolt patterns and stars into her designs. In a tragic coincidence, Bowie died very shortly after her samples made their way back from the factory. If the Starman were looking down from the cosmos, he’d surely approve.
