Our new feature “TASTEMAKERS” celebrates individuals pushing boundaries in the worlds of fashion, music, beauty, and art, and brings them together to share their experiences through personal narratives and images that have shaped their careers. We sat down with celebrity stylist Sophie Lopez. Enjoy the interview!
How did you end up in the career that you have now? I started out doing work experience at magazines. Then I got a internship at British GQ, from that I got the Fashion Assistant job, and I was the assistant to the Fashion Director. I stayed for 4 years before going freelance. Before that I did a fashion styling course at Central St. Martins.
Where do you look for inspiration to continue to keep things fresh and new with your clients? Blogs? Social sites? Fashion shows? I draw inspirations from all over the place, street style, the runway, film, theatre, art. Basically all sorts of influences.
What is your spirit animal? Why? Apparently it’s a wolf! “Wolf is because I did a quiz and it told me my spirit animal was a wolf!”
What’s the most POPULAR moment in your career so far? Probably Oscars 2014 with Kate Hudson. That was a great moment for me.
What advice would you give to anyone pursuing the same career path as yours? Be prepared to work hard, don’t complain and don’t give up.
What POPULAR client have you worked with that made you feel you finally made it? I love all my clients! I have very varied clients from bands to red carpet actresses. I enjoy doing different types of work so I don’t get bored.
